ITMS Joint Module and Benchmarking Meeting at DWD in Offenbach
From April 14 to 16, 2026, members of all ITMS modules (Modelling, Observations, Sources & Sinks, Utilization, and Coordination) gathered at the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach for the “ITMS Joint Module Meeting”- The event aimed to present the progress of each module and to foster cross-disciplinary exchange.
Over the three days, the modules showcased their latest results - ranging from advancements in the provision of observational data to new process- and data-based insights into greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes, as well as progress in the application of inversion methods. Thematic discussion rounds delved into key topics such as the quantification of uncertainties, the further development of satellite data assimilation for GHG concentrations, and the coordination of central interfaces, e.g. for result comparison. This strengthened the cross-disciplinary understanding and collaboration at key interfaces, making a significant contribution to the improved quantification of greenhouse gas sources and sinks within ITMS and supporting the long-term integration into an operational system.
Following the meeting, the ITMS coordination group remained at the DWD for an additional day to conduct the annual benchmarking meeting, which focused on evaluating the project’s on-schedule progress.
These meetings, as the last major events of ITMS Phase 1, signal that the first project phase is now drawing to a close.
We thank all participants for their commitment and valuable contributions and look forward to continued collaboration.
