Intergrated Greenhouse Gas Monitoring System for Germany (ITMS)
Welcome to the ITMS Project
ITMS (“Integriertes Treibhausgas-Monitoringsystem für Deutschland“, engl. “Integrated Greenhouse Gas Monitoring System for Germany”) is a Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt-funded project enabling Germany to operationally monitor sources and sinks of the three key long-lived greenhouse gases (GHG) CO2, CH4, N2O through independent measurements. The collaborative project supports data-driven GHG monitoring and the development of an operational GHG data assimilation service at the DWD. (Deutscher Wetterdienst).
The Avengers project, a Horizon Europe initiative aimed at supporting and improving GHG emission estimates, held an online workshop from 27 to 29 May and invited ITMS to take part.
The Integrated Greenhouse Gas Monitoring System for Germany (ITMS) was represented at the 2026 EGU General Assembly in Vienna with a wide range of oral and poster presentations. In addition, several sessions were organized by ITMS members.
ITMS was represented at the “National Forum for Remote Sensing and Copernicus” at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt from April 28–30, 2026, where it showcased the current status of the project.
From April 14 to 16, 2026, members of all ITMS modules (Modelling, Observations, Sources & Sinks, Utilization, and Coordination) gathered at the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach for the “ITMS Joint Module Meeting”.
